Long-Lasting Land Survey Monuments
Ensure long-lasting accuracy and legal compliance with our selection of survey monumentmarkers. Designed for durability and precision, these markers are essential tools for land surveyors, engineers, and contractors who need to clearly define property lines, construction layouts, easements, or control points.
What Are Survey Monuments?
Survey monuments are physical markers used by land surveyors to identify and preserve key reference points on a property or construction site. These markers are critical for defining legal boundaries, establishing control points, and ensuring the long-term accuracy of land measurements.
Typically installed at ground level or slightly below the surface, survey monuments come in various forms, and they are designed to withstand environmental wear and remain in place for decades, making them essential for projects that require ongoing reference or legal verification.
The Types of Survey Monuments that Berntsen Offers
Magnetic Pipe Monuments
Designed to meet the requirements of federal, state, and county surveyors, they’re easily detected with a magnetic locator, even when buried
Our standard monuments feature a uniform pipe design and are ideal for straightforward installations where a consistent diameter is preferred throughout. The flarable monuments include a specially designed end that can be flared outward during installation. This flared base provides enhanced stability in loose or shifting soils and helps anchor the monument more securely over time.
Break-Off Pipe Monuments
Berntsen’s break-off pipe monuments are designed to break at a predetermined point if disturbed or vandalized, ensuring the original survey point can still be recovered. All three of our models include a high-strength ceramic magnet in the base, allowing for easy re-location using magnetic detection tools.
Drive-In Monuments
We offer a variety of drive-in survey monuments that are designed for quick and secure installation. The optional G2 tap-on cap offers a 3-1/4" (83mm) stamping surface that can be driven directly into the ground using a LIXIE deadblow hammer or post driver.
Wetland Monuments
These monuments are specifically engineered for areas (like wetlands, swamps, riverbanks, and lake shores) where digging a hole is prevented by constant water cover.
FENO Survey Markers
The galvanized FENO monument is a secure, no-dig survey marker that installs as easily as a standard rod monument. Using a 6-step process, it forms underground "roots" that anchor it firmly in place. This innovative system provides surveyors with a compact, easy-to-install, and highly durable galvanized steel survey marker.
Rod Survey Monuments
Berntsen introduced the rotating sectional rod monument in the mid-1970s. It’s designed for high-precision survey projects but versatile enough for general use. Its key feature is a spiral penetrating point that causes the rod to rotate slightly during installation — ensuring secure, continuous connection between rod sections and long-term stability in the ground.
Berntsen’s exclusive Top Security™ Sleeve 3-Dimensional Rod Monument System is engineered for high-precision geodetic and GPS surveys. Its specialized design minimizes movement in the control monument, ensuring long-term accuracy and stability.
The Top Security Rod Monument System builds on the standard rod monument design by using a top section with three aluminum fins. This added feature enhances the stability of the survey mark, making it a more secure and reliable option for long-term monumentation.
