Selecting Your Survey Cap
- Metal (aluminum and bronze): Metal caps are the professional standard for permanent, legal boundary markers. They are orbital forged for maximum durability and are designed to last for decades, providing the highest level of legibility and permanence.
- Plastic: These survey markers can be a viable option for temporary reference points or for specific non-public-facing applications, such as utility marking.
- Berntsen's morasse plastic markers: Our morasse line features high-quality, UV-stabilized polyethylene. This protects against fading and is paired with easy-to-read raised lettering, providing a durable solution that can outlive standard plastic markers.
Creating a Solid Foundation for Survey Markers
The cap is only one part of the system. The stability of your monument depends on the substrate and the installation method.
The most common method for marking a property corner in standard soil is a rebar or pipe monument. A metal rod is driven into the ground to a stable depth, and a permanent, customizable marker, such as our aluminum and bronze rebar caps, is then affixed to the top.
When surface stability is a concern due to frost heave, soft soil, or other movements, a flarable monument can provide enhanced stability.
